How To build a Healthy and Engaged Community In Your Condo or HOA

A strong community gets built through the engagement and excitement of residents and owners. That is why, when you invest in your community, it will pay off for you big time. However, there are some communities where board members have let their resident engagement strategies slide. If that is what is happening in your community, you need to know that you can still turn things around.

Whether your community is not nearly as engaged as you want it to be, or you are a new development that intends to put a robust system in place now, this is for you. Today we will share how your board can build a healthy and engaged community within your condo or HOA.

1. Welcome New Residents & Stay Connected To Old Ones

Know your residents and encourage them to know you. You can do this by starting a weekly announcement where you share (whether through email or in common areas) exciting news or life events that have taken place in a resident’s life. Of course, encouraging residents to share those life events with the board, via email or in person, is the key to setting this in motion.

When a resident becomes a father or a grandmother, you should celebrate that! Send them a special gift or a card, anything to make them feel special. For new residents, send them a care package for their new home (including a personalized brochure of your board’s favourite restaurants and hangout spots in the neighbourhood).

The key is to show residents that they matter and that their life has value to your board.

2. Organize Bonding Activities

Many people are unfamiliar with their neighbours; however, you can change that with group bonding activities.

Organize a quarterly meet-and-greet for residents, owners, and board members. Doing this is a great way to connect residents, owners, and members of the board. Go ahead and host movie nights in your condo’s cinema room or pool parties at your HOA neighbourhood pool. Think creatively around your amenities, and use them as your connecting point.

3. Survey Your Residents & Owners Frequently

Polls are a great way to get the opinion of residents and owners. Polls do two things:

  • They Make People Feel Important

Making residents and owners feel as crucial as they are to your community is a significant perk that you should exploit!

  • They Provide Critical Information

The data you collect can be about everything, including how your board is doing, where you can improve, and what features or activities residents would like to see in their community (depending on your questions). The possibilities are endless!

4. Communicate Frequently

Frequent communication is not only part of your job as a board member, but it also is the very act that will connect you to residents and owners. Make sure you are sending residents and owners an email or a newsletter updating them on everything in their community.

Whether you have new residents to welcome or a new initiative that you want residents to be a part of, or even if you are updating them on everyday things, always stay in touch.

Your Digital Solution

As suggested earlier, asking residents opinions on minor, moderate, and significant matters is a great way to engage with your community. However, practically, one of the best ways to connect is through digital technology. Have you ever thought about investing in digital screens to streamline your communication with residents and owners?

If you have been looking for a trustworthy option, you should know that our technology is a great solution. MaxTV Media is a fantastic technology that will encourage communication and connection among residents.

Our interface is user-friendly, and we offer incredible features that will take your engagement strategy to the next level. You want to connect with residents and owners, and we want to show you how we can help you do that.

For instance, suppose that your condo community wants to know what movie your community should watch for movie night, or your HOA wants to know what music will get played at your HOA’s pool party. With MaxTV Media, that is no problem! Our system allows you to poll residents about anything!

Finally, if paper classifieds are cluttering up your front desk and common areas, remove that process and move to digital classifieds available on MaxTV Media.

Common Misunderstandings

Many people believe that communities do not need to be significantly connected or engaged to be successful. Indeed, this is not the case. Unless you desire to have a revolving door in your community, with people leaving as soon as they find a better place to live, then engagement with residents must become your priority.

Essentially

Building a healthy and engaged community in your condo or HOA is not impossible. It takes time, effort, dedication, and care to pull it off. Your board must be active in getting to know residents and owners. Staying connected to your community ensures that you not only know who you represent, but it also guarantees that your community stays bonded. If you consistently follow these tips, your residents and owners will be excited and proud to be a part of your community.
